You gotta put yourself out there!

A few months ago a page called webeyogaofficial appeared in my feed and immediately caught my eye! Her name is Heather and she is direct. She knows exactly what to say and when to say it. She's a business coach for Yoga and wellness professionals. The timing seems a bit serendipitous since I rolled out my website recently.

Heather shares her wisdom and experience of running businesses. I feel that's very generous. And smart. She knows what she's doing. The first post of hers that caught my eye was about social media. She said something to the extent of post something every f****** day. Hearing that gave me permission to do so. Why do I need so much permission?

I'm all about the free content on social media. I will absorb as much as possible. However I'm leery about buying anything. Two years ago I purchased a $2K anatomy course through Instagram. I'm sure it's worth it but I have buyers remorse. I still haven't completed it. That's on me.

Wednesday evening I opened my DM on IG and found a message from Heather inviting me to join her program. It even included a $20 off code which makes it $37 a month. I immediately signed up. This program isn't for teaching Yoga. I got that! This is about the business of Yoga. I'm pretty good at the studio part but I need confidence with the online strategy. I've built this big website; what am I doing with it?

I've spent decades helping to build other people's studios.

The program has audio recordings like podcasts. Heather is a natural! I also admire people who can speak like that. The first recording included a list of things to work on such as:

  • Going from a people pleaser to a decisive leader

  • Scarcity mindset to energetic boundaries

  • Non negotiables

  • Going from hiding to be seen

I've definitely have the first two down. The big shift with the people pleasing came with the purple towels. That experience showed me how much I've grown. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please check out the Lavender Towels blog. I've come a long way from the scarcity mindset but I have a ways to go still. Biggest example being the Level One Journey into Power Training. By spending the money on that, I elevated my teaching exponentially.

Non negotiables - that's a hard one. Mainly it's my days off. Monday & Thursdays but I tend to still work to get caught up.

Going from hiding to be seen. This is a funny one. It was my story! I just wanted to be seen. It took so long, I stopped trying. Please tell me how much you love me but don't tell me because it makes me feel uncomfortable. It's also the premise of my teaching. I teach in a way that my students feel seen.

Posting on social media. That seemed to be an evolution. I remember earlier this decade when I was still healing from my Yoga trauma, I really fought against posting. There was a moment where I posted a black square with a caption. In all honesty it's very hard to replicate the experience and depth of the Yoga practice into a social media post. As I healed, began to like myself again and then love myself, it got easier to talk about myself. Plus being surrounded by a fantastic community is very helpful! I figured out I just have to talk to my phone like I'm talking to my class.

The vulnerability part - it's hard to see my gray hair and big belly. It's not that I don't know it's there but when it's right there in front of my face, I struggle. I try to remember that this is the way everyone sees me all of the time. There's no difference. "The ones who matter don't mind and the ones who mind don't matter!" Dr. Seuss.

Back to We Be Yoga! After listening to Heather's recording yesterday, I was super inspired. Time to add to the website!

I've spent a lot of time this past year learning to see myself. And I have a lot to give. A lot to offer.

I've spent decades helping to build other people's studios.

Maybe it's time to put all of that experience to work building something of my own. People have said to me for years, "You should be a life coach!" So I decided to add coaching and mentoring to my services. I've added Personal Coaching, Yoga Teacher Mentorship, and Studio Consulting to my services page.

It feels big. It feels a little scary. And it also feels like the natural next step.

Go big or go home!
