What results would make it worth it?
I waiting for my hair to dry so I can start recording content for my YouTube channel. Dorcas once said something to me about my hair being wet and it stuck with me. I have done, naturally curly hair. A blow dryer is not an option.
As I’m waiting I’m preparing my space. Moving furniture around and also stretching a bit. Still dealing with this back injury after two weeks. I assume if I would let myself rest, I’d probably recover faster.
In preparation for content creation I searching high and low for my microphone. I can’t find it anywhere. This is unusual. I don’t typically loose things. Going through my office in a backpack, I come across a journal. Journey into Power March 16, 2026. I know it hasn’t been that long but I completely forgot about this. I’ve kind of forgot that I just went through the Level One Journey into Power training. Something I dreamed about for so long. That’s crazy!
I flip it open while stretching on the floor. First thing written was the schedule. Second was the names of the participants. I wrote them as a way to acknowledge them even though we weren’t in person.
I turned a few more pages and came across Day 1. Be a YES! Give up what you must- letting go. Come from you are ready now. Baptiste methodology. I was ready now.

Make eye contact
Stop demoing
Make contact. I always felt like I was a sub par yoga teacher because I didn’t make eye contact while teaching. I don’t have an issue outside of that but in a room full of people, it’s so overwhelming.
That first hot power class with Patty Ivey. She looked directly in my eyes and I felt seen. That’s why I do what I do. But I can’t make eye contact while I’m not there.
Stop demoing. I have certain spots in the sequence where I pop right into the posture. Crescent lunge right side (my left because I mirror). Eagle right side (my left). Twisting triangle right side (I don’t mirror). It’s like clock work and my left side is hyperextended for it. I needed to “disrupt the drift” as Baron would say.
Throughout the training I felt like I didn’t learn any of that. In fact I felt like I left without learning anything that I didn’t already know. However, it did deepen my knowledge of True North Alignment and I can now add Certified Baptiste Instructor to my signature line.
I forgot about this training after three months until I found my notebook. When I opened it up and think about how I’ve grown on the three months since the training. I don’t need to make the kind of eye contact Patty made with me. I don’t teach like Patty teaches. My impact is different. Demoing? I want to be a part of the practice. I can’t help it!
Was it worth it? In the words of my Grandpa Hodge, “hell yeah it was worth it!”
